Privacy Policy

Last updated on September 27th, 2023.

Privacy and security are of paramount importance to the developer of Freezetab. If you choose not to log in to Freezetab, then all of the extension's data will be stored locally on your machine, and the extension will not initiate any connections to our servers at all. You are welcome to use the Freezetab extension as local-only software.

Privacy features

Version 1 of the Freezetab extension does not contain any login functionality and doesn't send any of your personal data to our servers under any circumstances. Even if you do log in to the latest version of the Freezetab extension, you can mark any of your saved data as private, in which case it will not be sent to our servers.

Within the privacy settings section of the latest version of the extension you can enable privacy mode. While privacy mode is active all newly saved data from the extension will be automatically marked as private and won't be sent to our servers. You can also mark all of your existing data as private before logging in to exclude older data from being transmitted to our servers (in the latest version of the extension).

What information do you collect?

Freezetab only collects personal information necessary to provide you with our services. We store the following personal information you've saved with the Freezetab extension or website:

  • Email address and password: If you create an account on our website, then we'll store your email address in order to send you password reset emails, and to uniquely identify you as a user of our services. We also store whichever password you choose to secure your account. Email addresses and passwords are securely managed, and our authentication stack follows industry standard best practices (we absolutely do not store passwords in plain text format).
  • Website Content: The primary purpose of Freezetab is to save content from the web. If you choose not to log in to the Freezetab website, then the browser extension will only store your data locally on your computer. We store any content you've explicitly saved (such as URLs, webpage titles, text from websites, tags, and descriptions), along with metadata such as the date and time the content was saved and last updated. If you choose to log in to the Freezetab website and have an active trial or subscription, this data will be securely stored on our servers, otherwise it will remain locally on your device.
  • Billing information: If you subscribe to Freezetab then your billing information will be securely handled by Stripe, a secure online payment processing platform. We absolutely do not handle or store your credit card number or card security code on our servers. Stripe notifies us when a customer creates, updates, or deletes a subscription, and we update our records accordingly.

Information usage and sharing

We only use your personal information to operate our website and provide you with our services. We will never sell your personal information to third parties. We will never disclose your personal information to third parties beyond the purpose of providing you with our services (unless required by law). The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Security

We enable HTTPS on our website and use a variety of methods to secure our operations including: automated deployments, public key cryptography, virtual private networks, a virtual private cloud, firewalls, IP allowlists, periodic encrypted backups, hardware authentication devices, and trusted platform modules.

Child Safety

We do not intentionally collect data from children, nor do we market our services to children. Freezetab is designed to serve adults, and you must be at least 18 years old to use our services.
